MADNESS & BLOODSHED!!!
Post on on facebook by a friend who used to be the curator of the National Art Gallery of Maldives:
“As the 7 February 2012 coup was happening, the entire pre-Islamic collection at the National Museum was destroyed by a group who broke in. The incident has not been reported in any media so far. Apparently, the scene was photographed but the museum is under police control now and they are not giving information to anyone.” (N.B. since this post, apparently one local online paper had reported this but I couldn’t find it)
Meanwhile, the police are indiscriminately beating supported of the ex-president Nasheed, who has been detained and denied medical help for his injuries! This is less than 24 hours after a new president was sworn in who promised a peaceful transition. He has no control. Thugs and police have taken over the country!
I’m sorry for this out of the ordinary post here on my blog which is usually dedicated to all things beautiful. But the safety of distance doesn’t stop my rage and worry at the horrible events unfolding in what should be a quite and peaceful nation! (I’m currently not in the Maldives).
